10019, pp129, 2014; US $15.95<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In  an era seemingly quite void of \u201ctrue leadership,\u201d not only nationally  but internationally, the authors of this book may have uncovered the  past couple of decades-or-so lack of direction by very many in authority  positions. The very beginning of this volume, the title of their  Introduction: \u201cTrue Leadership Begins with a Philosophy of Life,\u201d sets  the tone for the contents.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Ten Golden Rules of Leadership<\/em><\/strong>,  instantly reminding the reader to think The Ten Labors of Hercules,  brings forth a vision of the Delphi Oracle through which the \u201crules\u201d  provided need to be and must be interpreted to the objectives of the  leader-in-waiting.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Knowing  One\u2019s Self,\u2019 as in Rule 1, is acknowledged as the beginning of each  individual aspiring to be a leader, and the masterful way it is  presented should inspire the reader even for merely personal leadership,  aside from any possible future authority opportunity. This is clearly  indicative in Rule 2: \u2018Office Shows the Person,\u2019 in which the \u201ctrue\u201d  leader is revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond  capability of individual leadership, the authors have made it clearly  essential in Rule 3 that without \u2018Nurture of the Community in the  Workplace\u2019 the potential leader\u2019s talents may fail due to desire to go  at it alone.<\/p>\n<p>Rules  6 and 4 are interconnected, for without \u2018Letting Competition Reveal  Talent,\u2019 \u2018Energy on Things that Cannot be Changed\u2019 \u2013 a very significant  factor for those who refuse to consider, and there are several \u2013 \u2018is  Wasted.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rules  5 and 7 are also interconnected, for \u2018Always Emphasizing the Truth\u2019  shall tend the individual to \u2018Live Life by a Higher Code.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In  these times of information overloads, the authors correctly advise in  Rule 8 to \u2018Always Evaluate Information with a Critical Eye.\u2019 They  explain very clearly and almost forcefully that without it,  misinformation will always have the tendency to enter decisions and  endanger directions. Of course, to do so Rule 9 is imperative to \u2018Never  Underestimate the Power of Personal Integrity\u2019 for, if not followed,  Rule 10: \u2018Character Is Destiny,\u2019 shall be compromised and the entire  component will be doomed to failure.<\/p>\n<p>It  is with deep and strong personal opinion as a (retired) university  educator that this book be considered by all colleges and universities  as an indispensable required reading for freshmen students to write a  review during their second semester of their required English course. That is, Greek American students can attend the University of Patra for  two six-week summer sessions, thus fulfilling the two-year requirement  of their home university.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>There are several significant advantages to this opportunity<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>First,  because \u2018credits\u2019 but not grades transfer from one educational  institution to another, students completing the course will receive the  academic credits without affecting their scholastic average. This in  itself is of major importance.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Since  instruction of the language will be in its natural setting, learning  will be much more advantageous than the sporadic classes over 54 weeks  in a two-year home-institution span. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Instruction  will be on a 4-hour daily plan, with an extra hour of practice by  working in a local store for one hour in conversing directly with the  local population \u2013 a great learning tool.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>In  gaining this \u201cstudy abroad\u201d experience \u2013 an additional advantage  advocated by colleges and universities, the students will be immersed  into the Greek society and culture, will make new friends while also  enjoying two wonderful summers in beautiful Greece, and will \u2018sense\u2019  their Hellenic identity and Greek Orthodox heritage.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>In  addition to the academic instruction, the University of Patra will  conduct excursions to several nearby historical sites, all included in  the tuition cost of 600 Euros \u2013 approximately $700 for the six weeks. Of  course room and board expenses will be additional, but such costs are  much lower in Greece, especially in comparison to the United States.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>This  year\u2019s first summer course will commence on June 15, 2015 and complete  on July 24, 2015. However, in order for the program to start it must  have the minimum of 20 students for the first summer.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>There  are no intermediaries, therefore there are no extra costs.
